How to train a dog? (Ⅰ)

First of all, the purpose of training a dog is not only to make the dog obedient, but also to establish more trust and communication with the dog and form a benign interactive relationship.

There are many ways to train dogs, and there are even several genres, but it is clear that the use of coercion or even violence to force the dog to obey is not advisable. The training of dogs requires enough love and patience. All the efforts will be rewarded.

In addition, the breed and personality of the dog should also be taken into account. Some dogs are quick to accept, some dogs will be slower to accept. At this time, more patience is required, but in general, as long as there is a Love and patience, there is no poorly trained dogs.

Then, let’s talk about how to train your dog to understand the simplest and most important commands: come, sit, down,up and stay.

1.Come here

This is the first command that a puppy needs to know. The way to learn this command is to use it frequently, and use it frequently in different occasions. Because dogs are not born to resist distractions, or born knowing that they have to return to their owners.

Start at home first, then gradually go outside, call the dog’s name and add the word or gesture “come here”, and give him a reward, treat, praise or pet each time he comes over.

There are two points to note. First, whenever the dog takes the initiative to come to the owner, praise, never criticize or even punish, because we want to send a signal to him, the dog near the master is a pleasant thing; Second, when training outside, do not ask the dog to come over and put on a leash to to end its play, to repeatedly call it to come and then leave, so that the dog knows to return to the master is not a signal to end play.

2.Sit/Sit down

The method is very simple. Take the dog’s favorite food in your hand and place it above the dog’s line of sight (you can lean back a little), so that the dog will have to look back at the food and naturally form a sitting position. while saying the command “sit” or “sit down”, and then give it the food, pay attention to the gestures of the command to keep the same, so that in the future you can use the command, but also can only use hand signals.

Dogs have a strong ability to comprehend, but understanding is only the first step. The important thing is to repeatedly connect and consolidate. Sometimes some movements will become unfamiliar if they are not practiced for a week, so they need to seize every opportunities to train.

  • Lay

Once the dog has learned the command to sit down, the command to lie down is easy to practice. After the dog sits down, bring the food to its nose, attract the dog’s attention and start guiding downward until the food is placed on the ground, at this time, the dog follows the food and becomes the posture of lying down. At the same time, say the slogan “Get down” and rewarded. After that, it is repeated practice.

  • Get up

It’s very simple. Raise your hand like a thumbs up, and the food is sandwiched between your palms. it is best to show a little. After the dog lies down, put it above its nose, guide it to follow the food up and sit up after the command “get up”, and give rewards.

  • Stay

This is the most difficult and most important of all instructions. For example, many dogs have the habit of rushing out as soon as the door is opened. Sometimes you just need to run out to catch them, but sometimes it may be hit by the rushing car. If you practice a good stay, open the door before letting him stay, can save a lot of trouble.

When practicing this action, don’t be too hasty, even if a second of success should be rewarded and praised, dogs like encouragement, we need to give him confidence.

First of all, let the dog sit or lie down, give the command “Stay”, and move the pace slightly back. At the beginning just a short time, if the dog does not move, then quickly back to his side, give a reward, after the dog understood and then gradually increase the distance. Note that every time you have to return to the dog to give a reward, this is a complete stay action. When the dog can do the long distance, you can slightly increase the time.

There will be many repetitions of this action. If the dog does not do it correctly a few times, let it rest for a while, or play the game and start again.

After learning these actions, you can combine sit and stay to play hide-and-seek, or combine lying down and stay to play pretending to be dead, etc.
